Samantha Goetz is running for elected office to represent the honest, hardworking people Nassau on the County Legislature and to deliver the ethical leadership they deserve. An accomplished legal scholar, Samantha was called to public service after her mother came to the United States from Cuba in search of freedom and the American Dream. Samantha understands the importance of safe, affordable, and suburban communities because her mother risked her life to live in one and her father protected them as an NYPD Detective. Now, Samantha’s raising her own young family in the neighborhood she knows and loves and will work tirelessly to ensure all Long Islanders can do the same.
As a working mother of two daughters, there’s nothing more important to Samantha than ensuring families and seniors can afford to live on Long Island. Far too many people have been forced to leave their hometowns due to crushing property taxes, high utility costs, and record inflation. Samantha has both the governmental experience and legal education needed to help ease this burden on residents and will work to reform the assessment system, help homeowners grieve their property taxes and secure the tax relief they are entitled to. Samantha will also work to attract new businesses to Nassau County, helping to create good-paying jobs for the next generation of residents.
A graduate of New York Law School and Binghamton University, Samantha has held numerous senior positions in government. She currently serves as a Deputy County Attorney in Nassau, where she’s proudly defends police officers and corrections officers as they put their lives on the line to keep us safe. With jurisdiction over the Nassau County Police Department as our next Legislator, Samantha will NEVER cave to “defund” the police extremists and will ALWAYS back the blue and the job they do, ensuring law enforcement has the resources they need to protect our neighborhoods and fight crime. What’s more, Samantha will fight to fully repeal the State’s cashless bail law, which freed dangerous killers, rapists, and other violent thugs from jail. She will advocate for the return of judicial discretion in setting bail, so violent criminals can be held behind bars until trial.
Samantha previously served as an Assistant Town Attorney in Oyster Bay, where she drafted legislation to protect our suburban quality of life. She opposes all efforts to eliminate single family home neighborhoods and believes it’s critical for local governments to have control over local zoning. Put simply, Samantha will never allow our community to turn into an overcrowded urban center like the cities many of our residents fled.
Samantha began her career as Counsel to New York State Senator Carl Marcellino and was responsible for advising the Senator on legal implications of legislation, policies, actions, and administrative decisions. She also served as the Senator’s Community Representative, where she listened to residents about various issues impacting the region, from the need for more alternative education pathways to protecting our environment and will continue advocating for these issues as Legislator.
A lifelong Long Islander, Samantha attended St. Dominic's High School in Oyster Bay and played basketball at the varsity level there for 4 years. She returned to St. Dominic’s Chapel in 2015 to marry her husband Jon, and they’re now raising their two young daughters in Locust Valley.
